Online Child Abuse: New Laws Considered by the European Union

 A lawmaker from the European Union (EU) plans to enact new legislation in the next few months. If this happens, the top technology companies will be forced to increase their efforts to stop online child abuse. In a recent interview with a local German newspaper, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Elva Johansen said that by 2020, social media had reported 22 million complaints of child abuse. The number of such complaints in the previous year was 1 crore 70 lakh. However, Johansen noted that the number of allegations was only a fraction of the actual facts.
