Google Photos: How to Set Up a Lock Folder and hide your photos

How to set up a lock folder and hide photos in Goggle Photos

Here's what you need to know about the new Google Locked Folder feature and how you can use it to keep your photos and videos safe.

Google Photos now allows users to hide sensitive photos on their phones behind the password. This is done with a new feature called Lock Folder, currently only available on Pixel phones. However, Google plans to bring the feature to all Android phones and iOS devices later.

Google Locked Folder Folder works by creating a separate folder for your sensitive photos and hiding them behind your phone's lock screen, pattern, or PIN password. You can also pass it using biometric verification like your fingerprints.

How to set up a locked Google Photos folder

Before you set up your Lock Folder, you will need to make sure your phone has some type of screen lock installed. For Android, this could be a password, a PIN or a pattern. If you have not already done so, set one.

Continue to open Google Photos and navigate to Library / Resources / Locked Folder. You can set up a locked folder here by following the on-screen instructions.

Once the folder has been suspended, all you need to do is move your favorite photos / videos to the folder. To do this, users can open Google Photos and select the photos and videos they want to submit. Once all is selected, find the 'Move to Lock Folder' option under the More section at the top right.

Where can you find your locked folder?

Once you have added your media to a locked folder, the files will no longer be visible along with your other photos. They will also not appear in any other gallery app.

As a security feature, photos and videos added to the locked folder will also not appear in albums or photo books, nor will they be visible on smart displays of Google like Nest Hub.

To find photos and videos you include, you'll need to open Google Photos and navigate to the Services section to find the Locked Folder.
