GoDady in the grip of hackers, leaked information for 12 lakh users

We all know the term cybercrime these days. Over the past few years, the number of cybercrime in India has skyrocketed, raising concerns among the general public and cybersecurity experts. This type of attack leaks all the personal information of online users and as a result they may become victims of serious online fraud. Many well-known companies have already fallen victim to cybercrime, and GoDady Inc has recently been added to the list.

Internet domain registrar and web hosting company GoDady Inc in a statement on Monday evening that November 17, 2021 the company received unauthorized third party access to Managed WordPress Hosting. It is safe to assume that the company has been the victim of a crime of identity theft. GoDady Inc states that this could result in the email addresses and numbers of approximately 1.2 million (12 lakhs) active and inactive WordPress clients being leaked online. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that by September 6, 2021, cyber criminals could access all users' data using a corrupted password. According to the institute, the password was leaked somewhat while it was being processed, which led to the incident. That is why all passwords are reset. 

The domain registrar's official also noted that in the case of active clients, sFTP and website usernames and passwords have been reset by the company due to leaks. Also, the SSL private key for other active clients has been revealed online. So the company is in the process of issuing and installing new certificates for all these customers. GoDady Inc it is also stated that all customers affected by the incident were informed and would be informed of the details.
