As a result of new forum update, only users who have added to WhatsApp will be able to see the 'Last Seen' status. In the new update 'My Contacts' will be the default for 'Last Seen' status.

According to technology site Verge, one user shared on Twitter the information on how to use the new feature. According to him, many may not see the situation of others on the platform. The user also shared the email and is believed to be from the WhatsApp authorities.

The email describes a new feature, "We've made it even harder for people you do not know or have never talked to see your last-minute status and online presence on WhatsApp."

The 'My Contacts' option for status    was pre-existing, but it has not been the 'default' feature in the Application. Apart from this new feature, WhatsApp also had the option of 'No One' for a long time so that no one could see the user's presence online. At first glance, it may not seem important to a user who has or has not seen the internet status on WhatsApp. However, Verge claims that some third-party applications monitor the app by misusing that feature. And that's why the feature gains value.

If the 'My Contacts' option is turned on, third-party applications will not be able to collect information about the user's online presence, at least on WhatsApp.

In November, WhatsApp began testing another feature called "My External contacts", according to another technology site, WABetaInfo. The feature may hide information about the user's online presence from a specific contact list.
