Tencent's WeChat has fixed an issue that allowed some of its content to be searched by external search engines, the owner of China's most popular messaging app on Friday, raised questions about the regulators' recent attempt to attack the internet industry.

Some of WeChat's content, including articles on the public accounts page, was briefly searched a few days ago by Google and Alphabet-owned Bing Microsoft, but not in China's main search engine Baidu, Reuters reports.

The change has sparked speculation that Tencent is heeding the call of Chinese authorities for its technical officials to demolish the "walled gardens" on the country's cyber that have emerged amid a major anti-sectoral campaign.

"Due to recent technological advances, official robots protocol accounts have had gaps, which has led to foreign crawlers scrapping part of the content of official accounts," Tencent said in a statement in Chinese.

"Spaces have been fixed."

Google, Microsoft, and Baidu did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Google is not available in China.
