The growing demand for electric vehicles in this country as well as in the rest of the world has been witnessed once again. This time the image of the growing popularity of electric vehicles in the country's capital came to the fore. From July to September this year, the number of electric car registrations in Delhi has surpassed that of CNG and hybrid fuel-dependent vehicles. Which is definitely good news for environmentalists.
According to the Delhi Transport Department, electric vehicles accounted for 8% of all vehicles registered in Delhi from July to September. On the other hand, the percentage of CNG dependent vehicles is 6%. According to the report, more than 1.5 lakh vehicles were registered in Delhi during the period, including 6,69 electric cars, 6,758 CNG, 6,256 CNG-petrol and 93,091 conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
In this regard, Kailash Gahlot, Minister of State for Transport, said that his department was committed to making Delhi the Electrical (EV) Capital of the country in line with the vision of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He added, "We have noticed that the electric vehicle policy has been successful in Delhi, which has led to increased mobility in the field of electric vehicles in the state." At the same time, he said, the Delhi government plans to promote e-autorickshaws and e-buses to reduce pollution and make it a cleaner city.
It may be mentioned that the electric vehicle policy was introduced in Delhi in August last year. Since then, sales of electric vehicles have been steadily rising and today its percentage has come down to 6 percent. Most of them are electric three-wheeled autorickshaws and two-wheelers. According to the official report, about 23,000 electric vehicles were sold in the state from August to October last year. Of these, 5,248 are two-wheelers and 10,998 are e-rickshaws. The number of electric cars and buses is also on the rise, a former government official said.
