Tata Motors has been commissioned to supply hydrogen-powered buses

Tata fuel cell buses will supply Indian Oil in 144 weeks or 34 months

Tata received 15 hydrogen-based fuel cell buses from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). In December last year, Indian Oil called for tenders in the relevant cases. One of the automobile companies in India won the tender. After that the two companies signed the agreement. According to the agreement, Tata has only 144 weeks or 34 months (approximately) time to supply fuel cell buses to Indian Oil.

This will probably be the first hydrogen fuel cell car in India. Now the question may arise how does a hydrogen fuel cell work? A fuel cell is an electrochemical cell that reacts with hydrogen and oxygen to generate DC current. Then the car is driven by converting that electrical energy into mechanical energy. Although this technology-based vehicle has not yet been launched in India, it has already started running on foreign roads. Its pair is fair in terms of making the environment pollution free. Because water is emitted from cars as a byproduct. So in this case there is no question of environmental pollution.

Indian Oil's Research and Development Center and Tata will jointly test the vehicles. A press statement said, "Testing, maintenance and operation of buses will be jointly examined. Buses will be brought for Delhi-NCR public transport. IOCL will produce and distribute the hydrogen needed for its refueling. ”

Girish Wagh, President (Commercial Vehicle Business Unit), Tata Motors, said, “We have already successfully placed orders for 215 and 600 buses under FAME-I and FAME-II, respectively. The provision of PEM fuel cell buses from a reputed company in the country like Indian Oil Corporation has further encouraged us to build alternative fuel dependent vehicles in India. ”

The country is currently focusing on building electric vehicles to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. In such a scenario, cars powered by Tata hydrogen fuel cells are expected to be particularly significant. The IOCL said it was committed to generating and supplying hydrogen power to the country in the coming days. In the future, a pilot plant capable of generating 1 ton of hydrogen per day will be set up in the country.
